Artist's Statement

A sudden emotion, idea or even a subject I am thinking about inspires the creation of my artwork. Vibrant colors and stark black lines are the basis of my paintings.  Humor,  feelings, nature, music, the universe and the element of time influence my work and the ideas that I convey on canvas. They reflect my personality and the way I view the world and the people in it. More than just a part of life, they become the essence and create a unique, individual style that becomes the language I illustrate in my paintings.

The composition in my works can be basic, complex or intrguing. The effect, along with the whimsical quotes is to inspire the viewer to see things in a positive, inquisitive way. The paintings are often simple and basic ideas of everyday objects or complicated random compositions that go beyond the familiar. They make a statement about the exsistence and meaning of life, inviting the viewer to look at the colorful side of art.

Artist's Short Bio

Antonia is a 21st Century abstract naive artist known for her bright vivid colored paintings and large murals. She was born in Houston, Texas in 1969. Prior to her dedication to the arts, Antonia worked in the fashion industry for eight years. During the mid-and late 1980's she worked and lived in the United States, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Athens and Venezuela. As a child she was always interested in art, and international travel increased her desire to become an artist. In 1989 she pursed her dreams and started painting. In 2007 she graduated with a degree in Art from Miami Dade College. Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions including one at the Stephen Watt Gallery, coinciding with ArtBasel Miami Beach in 2006, where she was given the honor of showcasing her paintings.

Many different art movements have inspired Antonia. Her paintings reflect Abstract Expressionism, Fauvism, Modernism, Naive, Pop Art, Contemporary and Graffitti. She is influenced by the artists Jackson Pollock, Keith Haring, Jean-Michael Basquait and Picasso to name a few. Currently she is working on her newest collection of paintings titled Moving Forward. The collection will be available for the private collectors and public in 2009. She is also creating her first artist book, Art of Antonia: Artgirl to be release by fall 2009.

Determination and enthusiasm for painting are the motivation that led Antonia to create brilliantly colored, bold-outlined paintings for the last two decades. Included in her accomplishments are eight different collections representing various time periods in her work. They are Cherry Pop (1990-1995), Various Series (1994-1997), Good Luck (1997-2008), Happy Hearts (1998-2007), Wet Paint (2003), Five Stars (2006), and Manufactured Colors (2008). Numerous articles in professional journals and periodicals have been written about her whimsical pop art style. The topics of love, humor, feelings, music, the universe and the element of time are a popular theme throughout her artwork. Having created and sold hundreds of paintings to passionate art collectors worldwide, Antonia has developed and created a unique style that is typically "Antonia."

"Art is the spirit and life in a person. It is the soul, the joy, the sorrow, the pain, the happiness, the ultimate true existence of life captured through the brain to the hand."
